Dear Friends,

It all started with a post on social media. I tagged a bunch of people to see if anyone wanted to get a team together for this event.  I had to delete the post because literally zero people said "no" and others had not been able to respond yet.  We now have this opportunity to participate in a great event for a great cause and we ask that you support us in our fundraising efforts. I have set a slightly ambitious goal for myself, knowing that I will be matching 25% of the donations received, up to $300 total. The recipients of the proceeds raised by the 11 Day Power Play are Roswell Park (80%), Make-A-Wish (10%), and Camp Good Days (10%).

The Make-A-Wish program grants wishes and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to children and young adults aged 2 1/2 years to 18 years old who have been diagnosed with a critical illness.  Camp Good Days establishes an environment where childen with cancer can break free from their seemingly unending doctor appointments and enjoy being just a kid for a week, making friends, playing mini-golf, and experiencing arts & crafts, swimming, fishing, archery, and music.  Roswell Park is one of America's 49 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers, providing research in immunotherapy, genomics, diagnostic tests, and clinical trials.

Most, if not all, of us have had loved ones that have been impacted on some level by cancer or other critical illnesses.  These organizations provide various forms of support to those people.  I have had several family members diagnosed with various forms of cancer.  Some have lost that battle and I'm sure there are others who continue to fight.  Cancer does not discriminate by race, religion, orientation, gender, or age.  I ask that you consider honoring those who have lost their battle, those who continue to brave their fight, and those whose battle has yet to begin.

This summer, more than 2,500 pairs of skates will hit the ice to play in the 2019 11 Day Power Play Community Shift to help in the fight against cancer! The 11-day game will be played in continuous shifts at Harborcenter in Buffalo, NY. This important event supports The 11 Day Power Play, raising critically-needed funds for cancer research and wellness programs at Roswell Park, Camp Good Days and Make-A-Wish WNY. While it is physically challenging to play in a marathon hockey game, it's a walk in the park compared to what most endure in their battle against cancer. Cancer is a disease that touches everyone, and The 11 Day Power Play wants to make an impact in our community. In the past two years, The 11 Day Power Play has raised nearly $2.5 million supporting cancer causes in Western New York.
