Last year the Purple Parrots were devastated to learn that our teammate and friend, Mike, had been diagnosed with Leukemia. In support of Mike, we banded together to join the 11 Day Power Play, an event to increase awareness and fund research to find a cure. As a team, with your support, we raised an impressive $29,527.
Today, we are happy to share the news that Mike completed chemotherapy and is now in remission! He will be skating alongside us. Again, with your help, the Parrots will continue this important mission of bringing awareness and finding a cure for cancer.
This year, as a member of the Purple Parrots, I will be skating for Heather, a co-worker and close friend, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Not only is she a hockey player and Caps season ticket holder, but she is the mother of a little-league goalie and she also fosters junior league skaters, giving them a home away from home. As someone who dedicates so much to the sport, I couldn't think of a more deserving person to dedicate my shift to.
The Purple Parrots will skate on July 9th for three hours, from 3-6pm. Please consider donating to help the Parrots stack the pads on cancer.
This summer, more than 2,500 pairs of skates will hit the ice to play in the 2019 11 Day Power Play Community Shift to help in the fight against cancer! The 11-day game will be played in continuous shifts at Harborcenter in Buffalo, NY. This important event supports The 11 Day Power Play, raising critically-needed funds for cancer research and wellness programs at Roswell Park, Camp Good Days and Make-A-Wish WNY. While it is physically challenging to play in a marathon hockey game, it's a walk in the park compared to what most endure in their battle against cancer. Cancer is a disease that touches everyone, and The 11 Day Power Play wants to make an impact in our community. In the past two years, The 11 Day Power Play has raised nearly $2.5 million supporting cancer causes in Western New York.
